Amb. Vaqif Sadiqov presented his credentials to Mr. Michael Møller
On 4 March 2016 new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations at Geneva, Ambassador Vaqif Sadiqov presented his credentials to Mr. Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.
Ambassador Sadiqov conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to the Director-General, expressing his country's interest in further strengthening cooperation with the United Nations in many areas.
Permanent Representative noted that Azerbaijan would continue to actively support the UN's efforts in a number of important fields, including promotion of tolerance, multiculturalism and dialogue between cultures and religions. In this regard, Ambassador Sadiqov highlighted the upcoming 7th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations to be held in Baku 26-27 April 2016.
He drew attention to the fact that Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan still continued. Ambassador emphasized that the UN recognized Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. He expressed his confidence that UN would further support “the fair” stance of Azerbaijan in line with resolutions of the UN Security Council and UN General Assembly.
Mr. Møller said the UN Geneva Office would contribute to the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), expressing their readiness to cooperate with the UN member states. He also stressed the importance of mobilizing efforts of all countries to ensure international security.
Mr. Møller asked the Permanent Representative to extend his greetings to the President Mr. Ilham Aliyev and expressed his willingness to further develop cooperation with Azerbaijan.
